Dirt showers and Snow showers.

Monday we spent some time outside.  While Dylan was crusing around I dug a few weeds.  Dylan helped out by throwing dirt on the ground.  Once he tired of putting dirt on the ground he decided that a dirt shower would be a good idea.

Wednesday bought us more snow, thankfully it was only temporary.  We did venture out and checkout the big flakes while they were falling.  In the afternoon the sun came out and all the snow was gone.

On Friday we got a parcel from Auntie Donna.  We opened the parcel while we video called with Auntie Donna.  Inside there was a little something for Mama for her birthday and a book and a little Pukeko (purple swamp hen) for Dylan.  Dylan screwed up his nose and studied the Pukeko very closely.  He did not seem to be impressed.  Later that evening the Pukeko made it to the inner circle and Daddy was on hand to capture the moment.

On Saturday we celebrated my birthday with a tasty Roast Lamb lunch.  Auntie Sarah, Uncle Rod and Grandma and Grandpa Osberg came to join in the celebrations.  The highlight for Dylan was the helium balloons.

On Sunday we celebrated Easter at Jamie and Jenny's.  It was a great get together.  The food was fabulous!  We have great hopes that there will be tomato pie and pulled pork next easter when family will be even bigger than it is now and even bigger than we anticipated at the beginning of the weekend.  Congratulations to Kris and Jeff!!

Dylan enjoyed playing the piano in the basement and visiting Lindy the dog with anyone who would take him.  Dylan also managed to convince Grandma (or maybe it was the other way around) to take him outside to look for hidden eggs before the egg hunt officially started.  Fortunately for the other children Dylan was more interested in shaking the couple of eggs he picked up than looking for more eggs.

After a refreshing nap Dylan was ready to go again.  This involved digging in the pots on the front step, carrying around the monkey cup, trying to kick the ball and checking out the helium balloons.

Dylan meets the dogs.

Our neighbors have two lovely dogs and Dylan is really into looking at dogs and pointing.  Generally he is not so excited once we get up close.  Lucia and Emsky (hopefully I will be forgiven if I have spelled their names wrong) love kids and despite what it might look like they were super excited to get up close with Dylan.

A little granola snack

Dylan really likes granola - out of his bowl, out of my bowl, out of Daddy's bowl and evidently out of the jar too.

Boots - a favorite fashion accessory

When I was little one of my prized possessions (according to my Mum) was a pair of red gumboots.  Dylan is now the proud owner of several pairs of boots and maybe it is just the flavor of the week but he seems to really like his boots.  He brings the boots to you and you are then required to put them on him.

Spring Fun

We got a couple of pinwheels to brighten things up until the flowers come.  Dylan was obsessed with them or perhaps it was just the handle part (he continued to the play with the handle after he beat one into pieces on the pavement).

I can't hear you mom!

We started the week off with some music at Ensemble and headed to our little friend Elena's for some playtime after class. Dylan was obsessed with the spinning top and Elena had fun crawling in and out of the bottom shelf of the bookcase.

We enjoyed a teaser of beautiful weather before the 0.6 inches of snow on Friday night through Saturday morning took us into 4th snowiest winter on record.

What is in here?

At ECFE Dylan was very focussed, he played almost exclusively with the little cars he found.  He didn't even check out the water play area.  Our gluten-free kid caused a bit of a fuss when snack time came though.  Of course we had something different to everyone else and the little boy sitting next to Dylan wanted some!  I felt bad for the mom because the little boy in question is the oldest boy in the group, he is bigger than all the other kids and what some would call spirited.  As a result she spends all of her time managing his behavior.  I am sure that all she wanted for snack time was a little peace.  Anyway she managed to get him calmed and Dylan scoffed his snack before there were anymore upsets.

Thursday we popped out to the store for some ingredients (critical to whatever it was we were making).  When we got home I popped Dylan down in the garage while I retrieved the groceries.  He headed straight over to the lawnmower and pointed at the ear protection.  So I helped him put it on.  What a cutie.  I am told that this was not his first time trying out the ear protection and I can tell you there has been more fun with them since.

We also enjoyed some fun new games.  I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth one day when Dylan came in carrying one of Daddy's slippers.  Dylan threw the slipper into the shower and moved on to other activities. I left the slipper there because it wasn't causing me any problems them.  When Daddy came home he put one slipper on and there said where is the other one.  I remembering what happened to the slipper told him to ask Dylan.  Dylan, when asked, took Daddy straight to the bathroom and pointed in the shower.

There was also a little game of hide and seek Mama.  We were getting our shoes on to go out and I needed some socks.  I headed to the bedroom and after getting the socks I could hear this padding of feet coming to see what I was doing.  I decided to hide behind the door.  Dylan came to the door, looked and couldn't see me so when back to look for me elsewhere.  I called out to him "where's Mama?" and he came padding back.  He looked in the bedroom again and again retreated.  I called again and again and he popped his head around the corner of the door and found me.

Fine Fridays

Friday was a beautiful sunny day.  The buds are bursting on the trees and out of the ground.  Dylan took some time to explore the tulip bulbs coming up and the curious bunny in the garden.  Check out his response to "what noise does a bunny make".  I love the screwed up nose and the snorting is precious.

#1

I am #1. He was probably not intending this meaning to be taken but he has been working on his "high fiving" so it's a possibility (in Matt's mind anyway).

Trying a little product

Daddy got some product for his hair recently and we had to give it a try.

Getting out and about

What Dylan really likes these days is getting outside. He knows that we often go out through the garage and so when he hears the baby gate he races over in the hope that we are going outside. He gently steps over the bottom of the gate (as a trap to others we do not have our gate set up on the ground but at a height perfect to trip any unsuspecting person) and pushes at the door while reaching for the door handle. Dylan also knows that shoes are required for a trip outside and is happy to bring yours to you in an effort to speed the process or possibility of going outside (it's still too cold to go barefoot).

We often take a little walk down the block in the morning before nap-time. Afternoon is also a good time for a walk down the block. Sneaky Mama, just trying to wear Dylan out. Dylan likes to explore those little holes in the pavement, poking at them with his finger. Sticks, leaves and seeds are also favorites for exploring with and tasting.
I made some Teff Bread early last week, it was definitely a success. Dylan really liked it. I thought it was pretty tasty, especially when toasted with a little jam on it. Mama took advantage of Dylan's love of the bread when trying to give him his fish oil by dripping the oil onto the bread. It didn't slow him down but I am sure that he will catch on eventually.

We had to do a little sweeping to clean up the crumbs from eating all that Teff Bread. Dylan thought he would try to do a little sweeping too.
We wrapped up the week with a great playdate with Oz. I enjoyed a cup of coffee and a good chat with Bridgett while the boys played. There were lots of great match box cars to play with (Oz has a big brother) and fun to be had climbing the stairs.
