Puebla

At the start of June we headed to Puebla for a three day weekend. Fortunately when we arrived it was lunchtime because there is a lot of food to try in Puebla. Here is a list of just some of the cuisine from Puebla: chalupas, mole poblano, pipian verde, cemitas, chiles en nogada, tacos arabes, molotes, mixiotes and tinga.
We ate at this little restaurant around the corner from our hotel called Fonda la Mexicana. It was really good! We started with Chalupas. We were so hungry that we had already eaten two of them before I remembered to take a picture. Then we had Mole Poblano and Pipian Verde.

After lunch we needed to do a little walking so we headed toward the Zocalo. On the way we passed the Cathedral (which is right next to the Zocalo).

The Zocalo in Puebla is very pretty, lots of trees, plants and fountains. The fountains were being utilized by the local school children for a little bit of fun. Later in the weekend we saw crowds of people watching performers in the square, it was a great vibe. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

A memorial in the Zocalo. Dylan like to chase or be chased through it, so did a number of other children.

On Saturday after breakfast we rode the tourist bus. We saw lots of pretty churches, old buildings and had a great view of the city from

We had a late lunch of Tacos al Pastor and Tacos Arabes at El Sultan. The restaurant was packed and the tacos were really good.

Later in the afternoon we shopped for Talavera pottery. Settlers from Talavera in Spain brought the traditional ceramic skills with them. I think I showed great restraint...we left with only two pieces.

After delivering our purchases back to the hotel we returned to the main square. Dylan got his face painted and got a balloon (or an inflatable Angry Bird). Despite the face in the pictures Dylan loved the frog and did not want it washed off.

There was a party being held in the courtyard of our hotel. I have seen a lot of parties being set up in the party room at our complex. The Mexican's go big for parties! I have never seen so many inflatable bouncy castles, boats etc. and other activities. At this party they had a bouncy castle and this water ball thing - the kids got into the ball and it was inflated and rolled into the water. Funny to watch.
