At the beginning of December the Newcomers Club had an early posada party. I think I wrote about this last year but... Essentially Las Posadas is a nine day celebration beginning on December 16. The nine days represent the nine months of Mary's pregnancy with Jesus. Typically what happens is one group of participants calls at each house (or at the "inn-keepers group) asking for lodging via a song, the other group, the residents respond. Eventually Mary and Joseph are allowed entry. The event is then celebrated with a meal and often a pinata in the shape of a 7 pointed star. The seven points represent the seven deadly sins.
The Newcomers party had food, games for the kids, a pinata and we attempted to sing the song. Dylan was most excited about the pinata, although when the time came for him to have a turn he needed a little encouragement.
~Face Painting...and the serious little frog.
~Froot Loops.
~Dylan's turn at hitting the pinata.
