Jardin Etnobotanico de Oaxaca

While we were in Oaxaca I got to tour the Jardin Etnobotanico (Dylan and Daddy entertained themselves in the main square with another inflatable toy).  The tour was really interesting - information about how the garden was created and the plants that are included.

The Garden is part of the Santo Domingo Cultural Center.  The land used for the garden was part of the Dominican's convent garden.  Up until 1994 the area was occupied by the military and used for sport fields, parking etc.  The garden contains plants from the state of Oaxaca.  Many of the plants were moved from other parts of the state to the garden as it was created, giving the impression that the garden has been in existence for much longer than it has.

A few pictures from the tour...

Preparations were being made for a wedding party on the edge of the gardens - it looked amazing. Photobucket Photobucket
